Taihei Group has been awarded as the first authorization company of [CSR start confirmation system] held by Waseda University

In the second W-BRIDGE / CSR symposium held in Waseda University / Ono Memorial lecture Hall on Friday, June 17, the investiture of certifications to the first authorization companies was held for the innovation "CSR start confirmation system", which authorizes the companies that have started CSR activity utilizing EMS.
We Taihei group (Taihei Kogyo, JACKS, Soni Sangyo) have tackled effective utilization of EMS in these two years and begun to work on CSR activity, respecting description of ISO26000 published last year. And this year, on February 17, we gave presentation about the CSR activity for which our EMS is utilized for Mr. Yoshitaka Saito, the judge and appointed us the first certification. It was registered and posted on the website "CSR seesaw" of this system. This investiture was for the certification. Our CSR activity has started. In order to let CSR spread in main / daily businesses, we handle our responsibilities by improving our ability and collaboration with the persons concerned so as to meet the confidence and expectations from customers.

Passed the CSR start confirmation!

This year (2011) on Thursday, February 17, we gave presentation for two hours just after surveillance of ISO14001 registration, requested a judge (Yoshitaka Saito from AUDIXRegistrars, the chief judge) for "CSR start confirmation (*1)" and passed. This page mainly reports about contents of this presentation.

1st Presentation:Our basic idea of CSR activity

In order to let our main business spread in CSR, we started with improving EMS (environmental management system) that we are currently working. In this sense, it may be said that our CSR is starting based on management system.

Not a single action but Continuous Action. Not by remaining power but Main Business. Not right or wrong but Necessity. Not hide but Open. Not isolate but Cooperate. Not maintain but Improve Continuously. Not only performance but Management System.

2nd Presentation:Respect ISO26000

On that basis, in our environmental policy, we have declared to develop EMS in CSR management service while respecting the international guidance standard ISO26000 published in November, 2010. However, description of ISO26000 covers various things including core subjects of "6th". Therefore, in order to build up a management system based on "7th" first, we made "cross-reference" to clarify dissimilarity from the present EMS individually and solve these individual subjects one by one.

3rd Presentation:Environmental policy and 'Principle'

Our environmental policy reflects the spirit of "Principle" established 40 years ago. Our Top Management performs development of this environmental policy directly, and has declared to set a "necessary environmental goal", not an "achievable environmental goal" in other words for ourselves and our stakeholders and furthermore for the entire society "necessary level". All the members deeply attach to "execution" of it and are devoting ourselves to devising procedures of daily work on dealing with everyday main business.

'Principle' Contribute to the society through the business. Cherish the wholesalers and clients. Engage in production and sales while praying for happy life of the users. Be sincere, gracious and kind to all. Make the best efforts to form healthy happy families.

4th Presentation:Direct DRIVE by top

In our Top Management, TM Head Office, the supporter who can be called second brain of EMS, is assigned. This is device to maintain sound tension relation with personnel below the environment management supervisors, who is the actual workforce, so as to let daily work spread in EMS. In this way, personnel below the management representatives is in charge of "correction process" and Top Management has become able to drive directly the "improvement process".
By this device, a "necessary environmental goal", not an "achievable environmental goal", can be set by sticking to realization of "frame of necessary environmental goal" expressed by the environmental policy.
For example, responding to the expression "prevention of global warming-up" in the environmental policy, we have established the goal "reduction of GHG by 80 %" that considers the life cycle of a toothbrush as "necessary environmental goal".

5th Presentation:Device to spread in the main business

Our main products are toothbrushes and interdental brushes. We have been making efforts to spread EMS for all processes of design development, manufacturing and sales of these products.
For example, for setting the GHG reduction goal, we perform an LCA analysis for everything including a disposal facility of toothbrush from the viewpoint of extended producer responsibility and set an active share expansion strategy for dominant goods confirmed by the analysis as an environmental goal of the sales department. In this way, not only the activity by the EMS Head Office but also the EMS activity depending on each role in assigned to each.

6th Presentation:Active implementation plan

In our company, the environmental management program (execution plan) aims at achieving the "necessary environmental goal" and various methods / techniques have come out rapidly in sequence by making full use of wisdom and ideas as a professional.
As a result of repeating of such active execution plan, "Cat's Paw Toothbrush", which enables to reduce GHG by 50% even if counting their packages, has been invented.

Dispose only the replacement brush and change it to new one. Reduce GHG by 50%!

7th Presentation:Investigation on business detail

Our company has laid emphasis on a search on bills in this one year. This is to obtain an information source to grasp surely the environmental impact of supply chains by paying more attention to environmental aspects (indirect influence) with stakeholders, as well as environmental aspect (direct influence) in a strict organization on EMS.
Moreover, we expect it to become basic data to list "confidence" and "expectation" from stakeholders and become a foundation of the CSR management service.

8th Presentation:Comment from Takayoshi Saito, the president of AUDIXRegistrars and chief judge

In "CSR start confirmation" on February 17, 2011, we received the following comments from Takayoshi Saito, who is the president of AUDIXRegistrars, the ISO14001 surveillance registry that our company entrusts.
We will make full use of this comment and make efforts to improve the CSR management service by the next confirmation.

As an entity, there is no problem participation of TM itself and goal setting in the policy to work on CSR based on EMS. An ideal method of EMS has already been established as a premise of CSR. In this sense, I understood the "policy" is the base of CSR and advanced case examples are seen everywhere, too.
As for product design for security / reliability, It is, so to speak, "activity of defense", you'll be able to get closer to CSR of the main business by going step further and pay more attention to how you can contribute to the society through your products. For example, it would be good to perform "aggressive sales" by releasing books about periodontal disease prevention.
It will be better to improve the way of grasping environmental aspects in the sense of connecting to the main business.
